Tanya Stewart Blackmon, MBA, MSW, is the president and founder of Auspen Consulting, a firm specializing in business and cultural transformation, leadership and organizational development, executive coaching, fostering belonging and accelerating thriving teams. Her work spans a variety of organizations, including large healthcare systems, community-based nonprofits and corporate clients.
A nationally recognized culture change executive, Tanya was named to Modern Healthcare’s 2021 Honor Roll as one of the “Top 25 Women Leaders in Healthcare.” She served as the president of hospitals within an award-winning integrated healthcare system. As a trusted advisor, she collaborates with leadership teams and organizations committed to cultivating strong cultures, driving sustained performance improvement and enhancing revenue growth.
As a systems thinker and strategic innovator, Tanya leverages her experience from social work and CEO-level roles. She excels at guiding organizations through complex business challenges and transformations, including mergers, acquisitions and other significant changes. Additionally, she is a certified coach for senior executives and serves on the boards of several nonprofit organizations.
Before launching Auspen Consulting, Tanya was Executive Vice President and Chief Diversity, Inclusion, & Equity Officer at Novant Health, where she operationalized the organization’s core values, impacting 37,000 employees across 16 hospitals and physician groups. She helped the organization achieve significant market share growth among two of the fastest-growing populations, earning a substantial annual financial gain. Tanya also improved the net promoter score (NPS) by 4% within five years as a provider of choice across all customer populations. Additionally, Tanya co-founded and led the Leveraging Internal Female Talent (LIFT) program, which developed high-potential leaders — with 45% of participants advancing to higher-level roles.
Tanya has a Master of Business Administration from Queens University of Charlotte, a Master of Social Work from the University of South Carolina and a Bachelor of Science in Social Services from North Carolina A&T State University. She is a licensed clinical social worker and has earned a Diversity and Intercultural Competence Certification from Wake Forest University. She is also a certified professional coach through the Academy of Creative Coaching. Tanya has received multiple awards, including most recently, the Queens University of Charlotte, “The Charlotte BusinessWoman of the Year Award,” in 2021 and “The Charlotte Woman of the Year Award” in 2020.
Tanya is certified in the Actualized Leader Profile, or ALP, which is a tool that links inner beliefs to leadership style and influence. The assessment can help leaders identify blind spots, clarify leadership values, strengthen emotional intelligence and build executive presence.
